RP and PVP

So what exactly is the deal with the two different sections; RP and PVP? Well, allow me to explain:
RP, or the Roleplaying area, is strictly for non-combat interaction between your character and others. Nothing in this area will have an effect on the PVP side of things, nor on any of your numbers for the PVP combat system. This is where the 'traditional' forum RPing happens where you talk about your character's family, flirt it up at The Beach, catch a show of the Ember Island Players with your BFs etc. Summed up, this is where you breathe life into your character so he or she isn't just a bunch of numbers to crunch through the PVP area.
However...
Once you want to get out there and rassle with someone, it's time to jump over to the PVP area. So, say you're RPing your character throwing back some tea in the local teahouse when some burly warrior walks in from the Guild on the Other Side of the Tracks and challenges you to a duel. Now, RP-wise all you would do is 'take it outside', but on the forum what you would do is jump over to the PVP area and create a thread for the combat. Combat would then be done using our wonderful and deep combat system until a victor was decided, then you would jump back to the original thread, post either you or your opponent walking off with a bloody nose (or worse) and that would be that.
PVP will also be where most of your Guild Stuff happens. This can be things like quests, Guild vs Guild combat, and battles over who gets to claim resource-rich areas. The more stuff you participate in over on the PVP side, the more experience your character will get thus making him or her stronger and more influential. This, in turn, will effect your RP since obviously your character will get more and more famous as he or she fights up through the ranks.
Basically the whole RPG will work as a balance of RP and PVP. RP will provide the soul of your character while PVP will provide the meat. Different people will lean more toward one side or the other, but hopefully everyone will try to fully enjoy both sides as much as possible.
