Character Application

[Ataru]

This is the form you will fill out to apply for a character. Approved characters will be moved to the 'profiles' section where they can be easily found to check up on stats etc. Stats will be assigned by the mod who approves you based on the skill you choose. Below you will find the application with explanations of all the fields, then a blank copy for you to copy-paste into a new post named after your character which you will then fill out, and then I will make a reply with an example character application.

Name - Your character's full name. Feel free to have a family name if you want. Canon names or relations to canon families will not be tolerated. Names that are fully based off of existing anime characters (Uchiha Sasuke, Rurouni Kenshin etc) are also off-limits, but if you want to use a common Japanese first name like Sakura or Sousuke we'll let it slide. Just don't follow up on that by basing your character entirely off of a similarly named anime character.

Nation - Lotus or Daichi. Your character can have been born anywhere, but they have to live (for now) in one of the two main countries. Read the History post before deciding since explanations of the two countries' origins are explained there. Neither country gives you a bonus or anything, so feel free to choose whichever.

Skill - Warrior, Waterbender, Airbender, Firebender, or Earthbender. See all the Skill posts to see what does what, or base it off your personal preference. This will decide what stats and skills you have.

Starting Weapon - Warrior only. This will influence the 'attack' ability Warrior's have. Weapon types are explained in the Warrior Skill thread. Choose which weapon type your character will start with. Starting types are Sword and Shield, Longsword, or Spear.

Job - Your character's profession. Jobs are listed and detailed in the 'jobs' section. This will determine what kinds of things you can craft or create. Choose the one that most fits your character idea or that will be most useful to your skill or Guild.

Physical Description - Visual description of your character. Pictures are fine but do not replace a good description. If you include a picture it should only be used to further present your character instead of taking the place of the whole description. Yes you can use anime characters' pictures, but if your character ends up being a clone of the person in the picture you will be asked to re-consider. Pics of canon Avatar characters are a no-no since you shouldn't look just like them.

Personality - What your character likes and dislikes. What makes them tick. What drives them. Just tell us everything you can think of as to why your character acts like they do... and what they act like. And stick to it, in the RP and in battle. Don't say your character is a brash and brave fighter and then have them dance around and dodge like a coward in battle. This won't effect your numbers, but remember that we mods will be watching to make sure you don't pull any out of character junk.

Background - Where did your character come from? Who taught them bending/fighting? How did they come to live in Lotus/Daichi? What is their family like? What are their goals? Give us a glimpse of your character's life up to this point. Don't make it a novel, but also don't make it a one-liner. And don't mention canon characters. They're dead and gone. Also don't mention children of canon characters. Your character would have -heard- of Aang and co. but the possibility of meeting someone related to them is slim. You can also have heard of the current Avatar, but you'll probably not have met her either. The only way I'd bend on this is if you wrote me the most amazing piece of very-canon story ever to explain why you get to know someone important when everyone else doesn't.

Other - Pets you have? Strange tics? Family members that often tag along with your character? Obsessions? Voice actor/theme song? Anything else goes here, but remember to list it properly with different bullet points, don't just make it a paragraph of pointless information.

A mod will review your profile and, once it's accepted, let you know and post it in the Profiles section. If there's a problem we'll post into your application to let you know what we'd like to see changed. After being approved you can look around for a Guild to join and jump into the fray. Below is an example of a character sheet based off of my character.

Physical Description: Ataru is tall and broad and appears to be in his mid-20's. His hair is dark and shaggy, and he keeps his bangs out of his eyes with a blue and white headband whose tails he leaves long to flap in the wind. He also has a scruffy mustache but no beard. He is muscled from lots of physical labor and bears various scars from burns and cuts on his arms. His eyes are dark green and have a kind of cultured intelligence about them that belies his otherwise unkempt appearance. He holds himself with the confident stance of one who both knows they have physical strength on their side and is not afraid of a fight.

Personality: Ataru cares little for rank or position... what he values is intelligence, courage and hard work. He strives toward lofty goals and expects those around him to work just as arduously for these things as he does. There is nothing he hates more than those that laze about or those that believe that inborn talent is superior to practiced mastery. He believes anyone can become anything, given proper tempering. He tends to be outspoken about his opinion and courageous even to the point of being foolhardy on occasion. However, life is just the pursuit of greatness, for Ataru... so running away isn't an option. It's better to die than to lose face or give up. Socially Ataru is loud, a drinker, and a party animal. There's nothing better than getting together with the Guild after a hard fight and laughing in the face of death over mugs of rum. He is quick to take a liking or distaste to people. After he sizes you up once his opinion of you may never change.

Background: Ataru was born the son of a noble family in Lotus, but nobility was never his lot. His mother was just one of the wives the heir had had over the years, and unfortunately she was not the last. After being divorced Ataru's mother returned to the poor section where she looked up an old flame of hers who she ended up marrying. The man was a blacksmith and, though he was never truly Ataru's father, Ataru respected him more than any other person. It was this man who taught Ataru to work and judge men by their output rather than what they said or how much status or money they had. This man had a dream of creating a Guild that would represent the hard workers of Lotus to the world. It would allow only those who had a strong desire to grow and build and perfect. It would ignore class, rank, or ancestry. The only thing it would value was pure hard workers. Ataru carried on this dream after his stepfather passed the forge on to him. As a blacksmith Ataru came to be respected in the community and, using the commercial sense he had inherited from his noble father, he was able to make his business highly successful shortly after inheriting it.

And so, backed by his money and the support of the working community, Ataru was able to begin forming plans for his own guild to be built after the dream his stepfather had taught him.

((Just as a side note; you don't have to mention any Guild in your intro since you'll be matched up with one later. Guilds can be applied for separately, but don't mention any existing Guild in your intro unless you've cleared it with the Guildmaster))
