Zhen
Name: Zhen 真
Nation: Daichi
Skill: Fire bending
Job: Tailor
Physical Description: Zhen is around average height with short black hair that is cut to jaw length. A lock of hair that falls around the right side of her face is kept a bit longer than the rest of her hair, she usually keeps this in a braid which comes to just about shoulder length. Her bangs sweep to the left, and fall slightly over her left eye. She also has 3 helix (upper ear) piercings in her right ear, and a two in her left. Her skin it tan, though not the dark tan of the Water Tribe. Another defining characteristic is that, while her eyes are both brown, her right eye is a shade lighter than her left. She appears to be around 16 or 17. She wears multiple bracelets on both arms. She also rarely makes eye-contact, which can be interpreted differently by different people. (I plan on adding a picture here in the future)
Personality: Zhen is quiet by nature and a bit shy around other people. She often comes off as a bit distant, but actually pays close attention to what goes on around her, and is a quick thinker when the situation calls for it. As a fire bender she seems to take on the personality of a fighter: quick, fierce, and competitive. She doesn’t instigate fighting, but she doesn’t like to back down from a fight either. Zhen, though she may not come off as the sort, has a passion for fighting. She also likes stories, making clothes, and winning card and board games.
Background: As far as Zhen can remember, she has always lived in the poorer part of Ba Sing Se with her grandmother and knows little about her mom and dad.
People often referred to her grandmother as ‘the crazy old woman’, because she was a bit strange, though Zhen was used to her grandmother’s antics. And while her grandmother didn’t formally own a store, people came to her when they needed clothes made or repaired. Zhen learned how to sew at a very young age, and often helped her grandmother as she got older.
Once it was discovered Zhen could fire bend, her grandmother made a deal with a frequent customer: she would repair any of his clothes for free if, in payment, he taught Zhen how to fire bend. He agreed to it. And so, Zhen got a fire bending teacher, Wei, a large man with the tendency to start bar fights, and plenty of scars to prove it. He wasn’t a patient teacher, and at first was perplexed at how such a timid girl could possibly be a fire bender. He resolved that she would never be much good at it, and Zhen, who up till that point had been fine with what people thought of her, decided she wanted to prove someone wrong. And she did prove him wrong. She picked up the basic fire bending moves quickly. Fire bending brought out a strength in her that was otherwise hidden.
After her grandmother passed away, Zhen decided it was finally time to get out of the small part of the city she had grown up in. She eventually ended up in ‘middle class’ part of Ba Sing Se, where she found work at a tailor shop.
Other: Zhen is often accompanied by her pet Pygmy Panther (This type of animal is seen helping Momo in The Tales of Ba Sing Se) which she named Nuo. A Pygmy Panther is basically a house-cat-sized panther.
I hope this is ok. Let me know if I need to change anything

Re: Character submission
Name: Gen
Nation: Daichi
Skill: Airbender
Job: Herbalist
Physical Description: Gen looks to be in his early 20's. He is the average height of someone his age but is a bit skinnier then most people. His clothing is always loose, baggy, and colored a light green. Gen's hair is very short and dark brown. One can always see the chain from a pocket watch hanging from his person. Gen's expression would lead people to think he is upset, although he will show a smile of amusement often. His skin is fair but his hands are often scratched and callused. Gen walks with poor posture and has his staff slung over his shoulder.
Personality: Gen is not a cruel person, but he's not known for his generosity. When he isn't busy Gen is usually lounging about in a comfortable position in the guild headquarters sipping tea. Slow to make friends but quick to do business, Gen prides himself on being a learned merchant. Polite and well mannered when it comes to business, but quiet and contemplative when he is alone. He is outspoken when he's not doing business albeit not terribly often. Gen is known for being quick to anger though he doesn't show it easily. He does share a camaraderie with his guild mates, but tends to keep things on a professional level. Gen enjoys working with his mortar and pestle, and preparing herbs for ointments and teas. He's not the type to start a fight, but he thoroughly loves battling for his guilds honor and glory.
Background: Gen was raised by his elder brother, in the slums of Ba Sing Se. They worked together since they were old enough to stand. Gen does not remember his parents. The only two people that bore any parental resemblance to Gen were his brother and the man that took them in. After years of living in poverty the brothers were made stable boys for the elderly guild master Ru. Taking quickly to their job and new lives the brothers worked hard to earn their keep and save up what little money they made. Over the months the boys learned quickly and did their best to make their employer proud. A scuffle with local members of an opposing guild left the two boys bruised and bloodied, but they had defended the honor of their guild and it's master with pride. Though the guild master hardly ever visited the stable the sight of the young boys beaming at their master while their bodies were in such a state gave him the desire to reward the two for their devotion. Ru spent time with the boys daily teaching them to read, and write. After Gens older brother devised a contraption to make the feeding of the animals in the stables easier and faster, Ru decided the boys might have potential and their studies drifted onto the subject of trading. Gen and his brother began using the lessons they learned and the money they had saved to begin trading in the market. In weeks they had lost all the money it had taken them years to save. Crushed by this the boys eventually told Ru. After careful contemplation Ru asked the boys if they wanted to get their money back. The brothers begged Ru to help them and he obliged. Ru took the two boys in as his apprentices, and began teaching them everything there was to know about being a merchant. Gen met a guild member who was an herbalist and over time was able to learn much about it. By and by the brothers were given the opportunity to travel abroad and trade the wares of their master. Upon returning home from one such trip they learned that Ru was ill. It was decided that Gen's brother would succeed Ru. Many of the members left the guild believing that Ru was just senile and wasn't thinking about the guild's best interests. Although Gen's brother was daunted by the task he took up Ru's mantle. A few months later Ru passed away leaving the new master of the guild to lead it without direction. The years passed and the brothers worked together to restore the guild to it's former glory. One year ago Gen and his brother were traveling across the desert to trade. After being stranded in a dust storm the brothers were attacked by bandits. The two did their best to fend them off but Gen's brother received a fatal wound. In a fit of rage Gen chased his brother's killer through the storm until he cornered the bandit and killed him. Upon returning to where their wagon was Gen found their wares gone and his brother lying in the sand. After a tearful inspection He realized his brother was still alive. Gen applied all he had learned about herbalism to save his brother while begging for his forgiveness repeating, "I'm sorry I left you." Gen spent the night in the desert holding his brother's body. After burying his brother Gen spent the next several days trying to stay alive himself. He was spotted from overhead by a merchant airship and brought back to civilization. After this point the guild completely dissolved leaving Gen to be the lone member making him the guild master. He has been working hard this past year to turn the guild into what his brother had originally envisioned, the means by which anyone can make something of themselves. Because that's what it did for them.
